The team at Clare Medical Centre are passionate and committed to medical education and training. As a multi-skilled training practice, we aim to train and educate ourselves, registrars, interns and medical students to the highest level of competency possible in a supportive environment.
We support Registrar placements through GPEX each semester, as well as fifth year medical students from the University of Adelaide each year. All have access to our team of anaesthetists and obstetric doctors, along with the opportunity to experience theatre and emergency presentations at the Clare Hospital. Our fifth year medical students also get the opportunity to visit remote Aboriginal communities during their placement with Dr Michael Nugent who visits the Aboriginal Health Services at Wilcannia and Cooper Pedy regularly.
We strive to be leaders in rural medicine and a key factor in this is supporting and encouraging our future rural GPs. The CMC doctor group are keen for registrars/students to experience the lifestyle that being a rural GP offers, especially here in the beautiful Clare Valley.
In 2020/21 we also hosted two Occupational Therapy students conducting a research project into access to Mental Health Services through Telehealth and a third student on placement for her Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Master’s degree, all from Flinders’ University.
